Edinburgh sports tech firm PlayerData secures £18.7m Series A

Athletes and sports teams using PlayerData Holdings Limited technology can now access a wider range of biometric data following an estimated £18.7m Series A investment. The Edinburgh-based company provides GPS-enabled wearable trackers and connected balls integrated with cloud-based analytics. These tools allow users to monitor training loads, output metrics, and injury risks.

Founded in 2017, the firm focuses on making data accessible to unlock player potential across various sports including football and rugby. LinkedIn profiles indicate 80 people are currently employed within its spectator sports operations. This latest capital injection brings the total funding raised in 2026 to £19.4m (following an earlier allotment of shares in April).

The documentation for this funding round was formally filed in September. Previous financial records show the latest accounts were submitted for the year ended 31 December 2024. The business operates by providing all-round team analysis to level the playing field for users at different levels of competition.
