Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and remote condition monitoring specialist Smart Component Technologies has secured an estimated £3.9m funding round. Based in Cambridge and founded in 2011, the company utilizes data fusion and AI-based analytics for predictive maintenance to protect maintenance staff in sectors where performance is critical, such as mining and energy.
The manufacturer provides two primary platform technologies: SWIX, which evaluates track substructure and switch components, and Smart Washer, a patented smart sensor for assessing the mechanical integrity of bolted connections through embedded clamp force sensing. These tools aim to facilitate the transition to condition-based maintenance regimes in the rail, oil and gas, and offshore wind industries to reduce in-service failures and downtime.
Recent financial documentation filed in July shows the capital allotment took place in June 2026. This injection represents the total funding raised by the business during the current calendar year. For the fiscal year ending 31 March 2025, the firm recorded a £1.7m loss.
The company currently operates with a headcount of 15 employees, though its public social media profile identifies 11 staff members.
