Manchester-based Phovir Technologies raises £2.5m for handheld spectroscopy hardware
Published
Handheld material analysis capability is the focus of a £2.5m funding round for Manchester-based Phovir Technologies Limited. The company develops near-infrared (NIR) micro optical sensors and MEMS-based spectroscopy hardware designed to bring laboratory-grade diagnostic power into mobile devices. These tools allow users to identify molecular signatures for rapid quality control in the manufacturing and recycling sectors.
Incorporated in 2023, the firm aims to assist with identifying dangerous substances, checking material authenticity, and providing robotic perception. Financial records for the year ended 31 March 2026 show the business employed four people, while external data indicates a current headcount of five. This capital injection follows £1.9m raised during 2025.
The company recently expanded its board with the appointment of Ben Poul Jensen in June. Michael Lynch also joined as a director in August, with LinkedIn profiles suggesting he is possibly an investment professional at Shorelight Partners. Documentation for the most recent share allotment was completed in July.
