Flexi-Hex Ltd, a sustainable packaging manufacturer based in Helston, Cornwall, has secured £61,300 in a pre-seed funding round. The investment, which was finalised and filed on 5 March 2026, values the company at an estimated £5.1 million post-money.

Founded in March 2017, Flexi-Hex specialises in the design and production of paper-based protective packaging solutions. The company is best known for its patented honeycomb sleeves, which were developed as a direct alternative to plastic-based protective materials like bubble wrap, air bags, and polystyrene. While the brand initially gained traction within the board sports industry for protecting surfboards, it has since diversified into several high-growth sectors. Today, the company’s products are used across the electronics, cosmetics, homeware, and food and drink industries to ensure fragile items remain intact during transit.

The Helston-based firm currently employs 11 people. This latest injection of capital, though modest in size at £61,300, contributes to a post-money valuation of £5.1 million. This valuation reflects the company’s established intellectual property portfolio and its position within the competitive sustainable materials market. The allotment of shares was completed on the same day as the filing, marking a continuation of the firm’s incremental growth strategy.

The UK sustainable packaging sector has become a focal point for investors as retailers and manufacturers move to comply with stricter environmental regulations and consumer demand for plastic-free shipping. Flexi-Hex addresses a specific technical challenge in this space: providing high-level impact protection using only paper. Their honeycomb structure is engineered to be lightweight yet structurally rigid when expanded, allowing it to fit various shapes while remaining 100 percent recyclable and biodegradable.

From a regional perspective, the funding highlights the ongoing activity in the South West’s green technology and manufacturing corridor. While a significant portion of UK venture capital is concentrated in London and the South East, Cornwall has carved out a niche for circular economy businesses and environmental innovators. Flexi-Hex represents a growing cluster of Cornish companies focused on exportable physical products rather than purely digital services.

The company’s trajectory since 2017 has been defined by a transition from a niche sporting goods supplier to a broader industrial packaging provider. By securing this pre-seed investment, the firm maintains its momentum in a landscape where sustainable logistics are no longer optional for major brands. The funding will likely assist the company in managing its operational requirements in Helston as it continues to service a diverse range of international clients seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and plastic output.
