Basecamp Research secures £21.2m for biodiversity-driven genome design

Designing novel genomes and proteins using AI models trained on organisms from extreme biomes is the core focus of London-based Basecamp Research Ltd. The biotechnology firm has secured an estimated £21.2m in its latest funding round.

Founded in 2019, the company utilizes a proprietary knowledge graph of nature to develop biological solutions for pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food and beverage, and industrial biocatalysis. Understanding the genetic, evolutionary, and environmental context of these sequences allows the team to produce tailored results without requiring traditional, time-consuming directed evolution campaigns.

The current funding, which appears in filings and allotments from September, represents the total capital raised by the business during 2026. While latest accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024 recorded 26 employees, more recent headcount data indicates a total of 72 staff members. The organization describes its workforce as scientists, explorers, and policy experts focused on deep learning and protein engineering.

Andrew Conrad joined the board as a director in July. LinkedIn suggests he may be associated with ACC Capital Investments, LLC, though this link remains unverified.
