Edinburgh's Autonomo raises capital for checkout-free retail tech

Physical retail operations can be automated using a system developed by Autonomo Limited, which has just secured an estimated £1.4m in a Series A funding round. The Edinburgh-based company utilizes ceiling cameras to track customer movements and automatically process payments upon exit.

Launched in 2023, the business focuses on providing "Just-Walk-Out" capabilities to convenience stores, gas stations, and bakeries. The technology aims to reduce reliance on on-site staff, lower consumer prices, and offer extended opening hours.

Financial records for the year ended 31 December 2024 show the business and domestic software development firm had three employees at that time. This capital injection constitutes the total funding raised by the entity during 2026. Formal documentation for the share issue was filed in June (following an allotment date in April).
