Tend VR Secures £310k Seed Funding to Scale Virtual Reality Mental Health Therapy
Published
London based health tech startup Tend VR Ltd has successfully raised £310,000 in a seed funding round to expand its immersive digital therapy platform. The company specialises in delivering Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy through virtual reality, targeting individuals experiencing depression and anxiety.
The seed round brings the company to an estimated post money valuation of £5.6m. Documents for the allotment, which took place on 6 January 2026, were officially filed on 25 March 2026. Specific investors participating in this round have not been publicly disclosed, and this marks the first major pricing event detailed for the company in recent filings.
Incorporated in September 2018, Tend VR was founded to address the severe capacity constraints within traditional mental health services. The company operates on the principle that good mental health care is a fundamental human right, striving for a landscape free from stigma where support is easily accessible. According to the company, approximately 12 million people in the UK experience mental health problems annually, yet only around 1.5 million are referred for treatment. Of those referred, only 17 percent reliably recover. Tend VR aims to close this unsustainable gap by offering a highly scalable, cost effective alternative to conventional therapy.
The core product is an evidence backed Virtual Reality Mindfulness Based Intervention. By combining immersive VR technology with clinically researched mindfulness techniques, the platform provides safe and effective therapy that can be deployed far more rapidly than traditional in person treatments. The solution is designed for a variety of environments, including clinical settings, workplace wellbeing programmes, and remote communities where geographical barriers often prevent access to mental health professionals.
Tend VR has already established itself as a trusted supplier to the NHS, the mental health charity Mind, and various other voluntary sector organisations. To support its rollout, the company provides a comprehensive suite of training materials to ensure its products can be used safely and effectively by partner organisations. Financial metrics such as revenue and profit remain undisclosed, but recent corporate accounts and professional network data indicate the company operates with a team of between 5 and 18 employees from its London headquarters.
This latest injection of capital arrives during a period of significant momentum for digital mental health technologies in the United Kingdom. The sector is currently benefiting from increased regulatory clarity and institutional backing. In late 2025, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence secured £2m in funding from the Wellcome Trust. This capital was earmarked specifically to improve the safety, effectiveness, and regulatory frameworks for digital mental health tools, with virtual reality therapy explicitly highlighted as a key area of focus.
Furthermore, the UK government's recently unveiled 10 year transformation plan for the NHS places a heavy emphasis on shifting from a reactive service to a preventative health system. This strategy prioritises the adoption of innovative health tech to reduce patient waiting lists and expand access to care in community settings. Tend VR's mission to put quality mental health care into the hands of as many people as possible aligns directly with these national healthcare priorities, positioning the company to capitalise on the growing demand for scalable digital therapeutics.
