Spotta secures £1.1m to expand AI-powered pest monitoring systems

An estimated £1.1m seed round has been raised by Spotta Limited to scale its insect pest early warning systems. Based in Cambridge, the company develops ultra-low-power IoT sensors that use artificial intelligence to detect infestations in the hospitality, agriculture, and forestry sectors. Its product line includes Bed Pods, Forest Pods, and specialized solutions for palm weevils.

Founded in 2018, the business provides continuous 24/7 monitoring to help organizations track pest activity before issues escalate, reducing the necessity for manual inspections and pesticide use. According to financial filings for the year ended 31 August 2025, the company maintained a headcount of 28 staff members.

The investment follows several recent funding events, including a £1.4m round in January 2025 and two separate allotments in April 2025 worth £335.1k and £500k respectively. Previous capital includes a £2.4m round in November 2023 and a £2.2m raise in October 2021. Earlier activity includes a May 2020 round of £471.9k, which valued the company at £3.8m, as well as injections of £458.2k in January 2019 and £119.5k in December 2018.

Documentation for the raise was filed in early 2026 (March 2026), following an allotment of shares in the previous year (July 2025). LinkedIn records suggest the total employee count has reached 29.
