Bath-based Som-c Ltd secures funding for AI-driven chemical research

Published

Applying artificial intelligence to the development of catalysts and clean-energy technologies is the primary focus of Som-c Ltd, which has just secured an estimated £40k in new funding. Based in Bath, the company operates at the intersection of chemistry and machine learning to help researchers automate their research and development processes. The firm provides expertise in creating secure digital workflows that improve how chemical data is managed and utilized during the development of advanced materials.

Som-c Ltd was incorporated in February 2025. The business addresses the technical hurdles involved in transitioning from traditional manual laboratory work to automated, data-driven environments. Its services include the application of machine learning to optimize chemical processes and the implementation of automation tools to accelerate the discovery of new materials.

This latest investment values the company at an estimated £840k. The funding follows an allotment of shares that occurred in April, with the formal documentation filed in May.

As a consultancy focused on information technology for the sciences, Som-c Ltd works with businesses to integrate AI into their existing R&D frameworks. The company aims to reduce the time required for chemical process development by using predictive models and automated data capture. Financial metrics such as annual revenue, total assets, and profit or loss figures are not yet available for this early-stage venture.
