Molendotech Secures £169.9k to Advance Rapid Water Quality Testing
Published
Molendotech Limited, a Truro-based innovator in rapid bacterial contamination testing, has successfully secured an estimated £169.9k in its latest funding round. The company, which specialises in real-time water quality assessment, filed the funding on April 21, 2026, with the allotment date recorded as April 20, 2026. No valuation for this specific round has been disclosed.
Founded on June 29, 2017, Molendotech is on a mission to revolutionise water quality testing and protect public health and water ecosystems. The company develops fast, simple-to-use bacterial contamination tests, such as Bacterisk and Bactiquick, which eliminate the need for lengthy lab results or complicated equipment. Their technology, which leverages world-leading endotoxin research, targets water industry professionals, environmental agencies, and local communities, with plans to expand into food safety and healthcare diagnostics. Molendotech currently employs seven individuals, according to its latest accounts.
This recent capital injection follows a series of previous funding rounds for the Cornish firm. In 2023, Molendotech raised £300k in September and £730k in May. Prior to that, the company secured £200k in April 2022, and £425.1k in April 2020, a round that saw the company achieve a valuation of £3.9m. Earlier investments included £350k and £50k in September 2018, and £100.5k in February 2018. The latest £169.9k round adds to Molendotech's cumulative funding, supporting its ongoing development and market expansion efforts.
The funding landscape for companies like Molendotech, operating at the intersection of environmental technology and diagnostics, appears robust in the UK. While headline climate tech funding saw a decline in 2025, early-stage investment, particularly at Seed and Series A, has remained stable. The median deal size in climate tech grew from $968K in 2020 to $3M in 2024, indicating a healthy environment for emerging companies.
The broader UK water treatment system market is projected for significant growth, with forecasts indicating an increase from $35.2 billion in 2026 to $72.5 billion by 2036, at a compound annual growth rate of 7.5%. This growth is largely driven by the imperative to meet stringent environmental regulations and address escalating concerns regarding water quality. The UK government has underscored this commitment with substantial planned investment in water infrastructure, earmarking £104 billion for the 2025-2030 period, more than double the preceding five years. This includes considerable investment in improving storm overflows and upgrading wastewater treatment facilities. Digital innovation is also a key focus in water sector reform, with initiatives such as smart meters and an "Open Monitoring" approach being prioritised. Artificial intelligence is increasingly being adopted by utilities to optimise investment planning, network renewal, and risk management.
Furthermore, Molendotech's expansion into healthcare diagnostics aligns with another thriving sector. The UK health tech market has attracted over £2.8 billion in investment since 2020, with AI-powered diagnostics emerging as a leading funding category. Seed funding in the UK demonstrated remarkable vitality in 2025, with health tech being a dominant sector for investment.
Molendotech’s continued ability to secure funding, even in smaller, targeted rounds, positions it to capitalise on these favourable market conditions. Its focus on accessible, rapid testing solutions addresses critical needs in both environmental protection and public health, areas receiving significant attention and investment across the UK.
