Edinburgh Health Tech Microbira Secures £308.4k for AI Diagnostic Tool

Microbira Limited has secured a £308.4k funding round to advance its AI-driven diagnostic tools. The Edinburgh-based company is valued at an estimated £4.1m following this latest investment. Its core product, MAAP-IR, uses FTIR-based technology to provide reagent-free in-vitro diagnostics for clinical microbiology laboratories, healthcare providers, and research institutions.

The software package identifies over 40 clinically relevant species, such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida auris, in under five minutes. Founded in 2019, the business operates within the hospital and health care industry to streamline laboratory workflows.

This current capital injection follows a £300k total raised during 2025. According to its latest accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025, the company employed four people, though more recent data from social channels indicates a headcount of seven staff members. The formal documentation for this round was filed in July 2026.
