Decarbonising the construction sector's infrastructure projects is the focus of Seaham-based Low Carbon Materials, which has raised an estimated £382.4k in seed funding. The firm develops carbon-negative additives, such as ACLA and OSTO, which serve as drop-in solutions for concrete and asphalt. These products are marketed to material suppliers, contractors, and public-sector clients involved in building and highway works.

Founded in 2019, the business addresses the environmental impact of traditional building materials through climate tech innovation. It has previously been recognised as an Earthshot Prize Finalist and won the BE100 Competition. Current partners include industry names such as Breedon, Tarmac, Holcim, Eurovia, Skanska, and National Highways.

This latest investment follows a total of £908.9k raised during 2025. For the current calendar year, the company has secured £381.9k (allotted in March). Financial accounts for the period ending 31 December 2024 reported a headcount of 15 employees, while more recent data from LinkedIn suggests the workforce has expanded to 21 people.
