Kidlington-based First Light Fusion Limited has raised an estimated £8m in a Series C Plus funding round. The company focuses on researching inertial confinement fusion and developing proprietary amplifier technology for clean energy generation.

Spun out from the University of Oxford in 2011, the firm provides high-performance solutions to the aerospace, space, and defense sectors. Its service offerings include hypervelocity launch and impact testing, pulsed power systems, and extreme environment simulation. The company also works with other fusion businesses and research institutions to provide data-driven engineering and computational physics support.

The latest financial accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025 show that First Light Fusion recorded a £15.5m loss. The company currently maintains a workforce of 100 employees according to its most recent filings, while its LinkedIn profile identifies 83 staff members.

This £8m raise follows several previous funding rounds. Significant prior investments include a £22.5m round in November 2021 and two allotments in January 2022 for £5m and £2m respectively. In December 2021, the company secured £3.8m. During 2020, the firm completed multiple smaller raises, including £532.4k in October and £262k in June (allotment date April, filing date May).

The company recently updated its board of directors with two new appointments. Adrian Gareth Jones and Theodore Frederic Florent Marie Mollinger joined the board in April.

First Light Fusion operates from its headquarters in Yarnton, near Oxford. The business utilizes physics, precision manufacturing, and empirical validation to advance its inertial fusion energy research. Its current operations involve working closely with both international and UK-based academic communities. Total assets and specific valuation figures for the current round were not disclosed in the filing.
