Zero-emission intercity coach operator Ember Core Ltd has secured an estimated £18m in a Series A funding round. The Edinburgh-based company operates a fleet of electric vehicles designed to replace traditional combustion-engine coaches on long-distance routes.
Incorporated in 2019, the business targets passengers seeking sustainable travel alternatives. Its coaches are equipped with Wi-Fi and USB charging ports to provide a modern travel experience. According to its latest accounts for the year ended 31 March 2025, the company achieved revenue of £9.1m. This figure was accompanied by a loss of £1.8m for the financial year. The company workforce reached 116 employees by the end of that period.
The £18m round (filed in May 2026) is a further expansion of the company capital base. It follows an £11m Series A round completed in January 2024. Earlier capital raises include a £1.7m seed round in February 2022 and a £165k investment in March 2020. The 2020 round was conducted at a post-money valuation of £3.1m.
Ember Core Ltd manages its electric coach network from its headquarters in Scotland. The company focuses on the technical and operational requirements of running high-frequency, long-distance electric transport, including charging infrastructure and passenger services. Its service model provides an alternative to rail and traditional bus travel with a focus on zero-emission technology.
