Smytec Ltd secures £212k for advanced evidence recovery technology
Published
A new funding round has seen Lubenham-based Smytec Ltd raise £212.5k at an estimated post-money valuation of £8.2m. The company operates in the natural sciences and engineering research sector, developing handheld hyperspectral imaging systems designed for forensic evidence detection and capture. Its products serve law enforcement, defence, security organisations, and investigative service providers.
Founded in 2019, the firm created the BlindSite Scene camera to visualise and reveal unseen details such as latent marks, body fluids, and trace DNA. This unit operates similarly to a DSLR but offers sensitivity up to 650 times greater than the human eye, allowing for non-contact, non-destructive retrieval in environments ranging from traditional crime scenes to counter-terrorism and post-blast fingerprint recovery. The technology is also applied to the identification of explosives, hidden tattoos, IEDs, and wildlife poaching.
A headcount of seven staff is reported on LinkedIn, while financial accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024 recorded five employees. Documentation for this latest share allotment was filed in August.
