Krotos secures £1.4m for media production tools

Published

Krotos Ltd has raised £1.4m to expand its range of AI-assisted audio technology. Based in Edinburgh, the company develops software and plug-ins used to generate sonic effects, ambiences, and creature noises for the film, television, and video game industries.

The business was founded in 2013 and builds tools including Dehumaniser, Weaponiser, and Reformer Pro. These products have been utilized in global productions such as Game of Thrones, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Stranger Things. The suite integrates directly into digital workstations and non-linear editors, allowing users to create performance-based sound results using real recorded samples.

A recent addition to the lineup is the Krotos Studio platform, which utilizes video-matching features. This system analyzes clips to produce synchronized, editable beds for Foley, vehicles, crowds, and music textures.

Accounts for the period ending 30 September 2024 show the firm employed 17 people. More recent data from LinkedIn indicates a headcount of 23 staff members. This seed investment was finalized in the current month.
