HoloMem secures £4.2m for holographic data storage technology

Published

An estimated £4.2m has been raised by HoloMem, a Croydon-based hardware developer, in its latest funding round. The company manufactures HoloDrive cartridges that use holograms to record information at ultra-high density on polymer media. This product is compatible with existing magnetic-tape library systems used in data centres for enterprise cold-storage and archival applications.

The business was incorporated in 2020 by a serial entrepreneur and former Dyson design engineer to address the challenge of explosive global data creation. Its plug-and-play solution allows data managers to store up to 200TB per unit. The technology requires zero energy to maintain stored files and is intended to be infinitely readable.

This investment follows a £2.5m total recorded last year. According to company filings, the most recent allotment of shares took place in July, with documentation formalised in August. While accounts for the year ending May 2025 listed a headcount of 12, the company's LinkedIn profile indicates the team has grown to 19 employees.
