Droplet Scientific secures £1.5m for portable microfluidic hardware

An estimated £1.5m has been raised by Southampton-based Droplet Scientific Ltd to advance its analysers. These devices enable continuous observation of biomarkers including glucose, lactate, pyruvate, propofol, and lithium.

Founded in 2022, the company addresses the limitations of traditional blood and tissue sampling methods, which often provide delayed snapshots of data rather than real-time trends. This point-of-care platform aims to provide autonomous measurement with accuracy comparable to laboratory equipment, facilitating precision medicine and personalised healthcare without interfering with patients’ lives.

Target users include commercial and academic entities in clinical settings, emergency and surgical care, drug development, and performance monitoring.

The business reported five employees in its latest accounts for the year ended 30 September 2025, while LinkedIn records suggest a current headcount of four. This funding round was documented in filings made during September 2026.
