Csignum secures £2.6m for underwater communication technology

Pioneering cable-free communication for underwater environments, Csignum Ltd has secured an estimated £2.6m in its latest funding round. The company, which operates from Bathgate, develops a patented low-frequency electromagnetic field method designed to transmit signals through the surface-air interface, seabed, and submerged structures.

Incorporated in 2020, the business addresses the challenge of autonomous connectivity for maritime equipment where traditional cabling is impractical. The technology supports a range of ocean-related industries including aquaculture, environmental monitoring, and critical infrastructure security. The system also enables digital transformation for defense and subsea sectors by providing reliable data links across the water column to land-based networks.

This current investment follows a capital total of £6.4m raised during the previous twelve-month period. While accounts for the year ending 31 December 2025 listed 11 employees, more recent metrics from its professional profile indicate the workforce has since grown to 26 staff members.

The firm’s product suite includes wireless instrumentation, datalogging, and asset integrity automation tools. These solutions incorporate edge computing and machine learning to optimize processes such as hydrate management and chemical injection. The documentation for this allotment was filed in August 2026.
